It's built in to the mechanism on the assumption that all CDs have errors - and they do. It may depend on the drive, though.Įrror rates are not obvious, since any CD player you try your disk in will automatically correct errors. But I have not seen any evidence that burning at higher speeds increases the error rate. My current burner won't even do 1x - 12x is the slowest speed available. I've been told that the longtime practice of burning CDs at 1x is no longer necessary, that it's outdated advice. I'm guessing I could have done it more easily with something like CD Architect, but it seemed to work OK. So, what I did was to bounce the whole thing to a clip, then split again at the correct points, export the 5 songs out again, and burn with 'no gap between songs' using Nero. I scratched my head about getting the right gaps between songs when burning the CD though, as 3 of the songs had crossfades. I'm quite encouraged by this, as that's exactly what I did with our 5-track EP recently. The burner app also needs to support zero-length gaps between tracks (some always put 2-second pauses between songs). The only thing you need now is a good CD burning program that will let you specify where the index markers go so that listeners can select individual tracks from within your file. If you have SONAR Studio, you'll only have rectangular dither available - don't worry about it, it'll do.
WAVEPAD VS AUDACITY UPGRADE
If you upgrade to S8, you'll have Boost11, which is actually quite good - if you use it properly.Įxport the whole shebang as one monster 16-bit wave. You can use the Sonitus compressor for that, since that's what you've got. Where you roll it off depends on the musical genre, but 40Hz is a good place to start, then tweak to taste.Īfter the EQ, put in a limiter. Place an equalizer on the master bus and roll off the ultra low end. You want to have some headroom so the limiter has room to do its thing. If you can't do that without clipping, bring everything down. Use the loudest song as your guide, and try to leave it alone, bringing the others up to its level if possible. Insert automation nodes on the volume envelope in front of each clip so you can tweak the level of each one such that all the songs are heard at (more or less) the same volume.
WAVEPAD VS AUDACITY SERIES
Play back the series of songs and determine which one sounds loudest. Lay them out the way you want them to be sequenced on your CD, putting appropriate pauses if you like or crossfades if you want to run them together.Īdd a volume envelope to the track. Import them all to a single stereo track.
Then import those files into a new SONAR project (un-check the box that says "copy to audio folder"). If you want to master a CD, start by mixing and exporting your songs as 24-bit files (no dither is necessary but it doesn't hurt anything). That would get you Boost11 and the linear-phase equalizer, and you're set. Upgrading to S8 might be more cost-effective than buying a bunch of plugins, though. That is no longer the case, unless of course you have another application that you just feel more comfortable with.īut with SONAR 6 you really have everything you need, or at least can add third-party plugins to achieve.
WAVEPAD VS AUDACITY SOFTWARE
Part of the reason we used to resort to external software for mastering was simply there were other programs that made it easier than SONAR did. The great news, its do-able and we can help each other soar to great heights of music, no matter what your level or equipment.
WAVEPAD VS AUDACITY HOW TO
Lite instruments are there to get you playing and inspired.ĪKA, When my music seems dullest and I can't afford a professional mixing engineer or mastering engineer and their expen$sive equipment 24/7, it behooves me to have Ozone 3 for a couple hundred bucks and learn how to mix and master (years). Think of Sonar as a container-DAW which can hold multi-musical instruments of various qualities. The Sonar Lite versions do not help me much with EQ sweeping, expansion of lower transient levels, transparent limiting, harmonic excitations, upward compression, etc. in order to master at an intermediate level. You really need higher mixing and CD protocols (AKA mastering protocols /persons) to brighten, clean and polish, add crackle and crunch, etc.īut you also need a good recording environment, good signal chains for recording, great monitors, faithful-talents/players (I did not say virtuosos), vox compressors, etc. are *seemingly* lite versions which don't allow fine-tuning of crucial transients, authentic sounds, ambiance, etc. Sonar's Boost 11 will do in a pinch: To me, Sonar EQs, compressors, stereo-wideners, limiters, reverb, loudness-maximers, harmonizers, etc.
